BACKGROUND CHECKS, AND THE ANOINTING

My first attraction to Jesus Christ and His kingdom happened while watching a Billy Graham Crusade in 1964. I didn’t capitulate at that moment, but I will never forget the "feeling" I sensed as hundreds responded to the gospel.

I was reminded of that moment earlier this week while watching the dedication of the Billy Graham Library. I had that same "feeling." I had it again this morning as we toured the Library.

Then, this afternoon, I happened to "tune in" just as thousands in Africa were responding to the gospel during a Benny Hinn broadcast. I have sensed that "feeling" thousands of times over the last 43 years.

"Feeling" does not adequately describe what is really my spirit man recognizing and responding to the anointing of God.

We need to grow in our ability to discern and yield to the anointing of the Holy Spirit. The government of God will be set in place as we recognize and receive the particular anointing upon men and women in our lives.

We should not neglect issues of character. Spiritual background checks are important, for we are to know those who labor among us. And, we will know them by their fruit.

But, the kind of fruit we need goes far beyond people being moral and honest. The fruit of the anointing includes: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. The fruit of the anointing also encompasses specificity with regard to spheres of authority and responsibility.

Our carnal minds and judgments will keep us from the reality of Christ Jesus’ operating in others by the anointing. We will miss our kingdom placement and function until we come to grips with the powerful role of the anointing among us.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
